VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
FOR LADIES ROCK CAMP
February 17 - 19, 2012
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Girls Rock Camp ATL! We need the help of lots of reliable, dedicated folks to make camp happen, so thank you for offering your skills and enthusiasm. Before and during camp there is a wide range of important volunteer positions to be filled. Some positions are open to women with some musical experience, some are open to women with or without a musical background, and some don’t require musical ability and are open to people of any sex and gender identity. We will review applications as they come in and contact applicants as plans for the camp session develop.

Ladies Rock Camp 2012 is looking to fill the following positions:
INSTRUMENT
INSTRUCTOR: Open to girls/women/females (trans inclusive). Music
experience required. Our campers possess a varying range of skill levels – some
have been playing for years, many have never touched a musical instrument in
their lives. Instructors are responsible for working with other teachers to
plan classes and create a supportive learning environment for the campers.
Classes usually involve a combination of team-teaching larger groups of
students and solo teaching in smaller groups.
ROADIE/TECH CREW: Open to all. Music/technical experience preferred but not necessary. Roadies are vital! We need folks to
help set up, break down, and move equipment throughout the week. Responsibilities include setting up the
camp site, reconfiguring rooms for band practice every day, helping with load-in/out
on showcase day, keeping track of cables, pedals, guitar straps, and other
gear, etc.
FRONT DESK/CRAFT
SERVICES: Open to all. This volunteer
may assist with the check-in and out of campers every day, monitors visitors,
and helps with volunteer and camper food, beverage, and snack service.
RUNNER/CRAFT SERVICES: Open to all. We always have last-minute stuff that comes up and we need a few folks to be available for runs to the music or hardware store, fill in if another volunteer can’t make her shift, help with volunteer and camper food, beverage, and snack service, and generally lend a hand as necessary.
SHOWCASE PRODUCTION
ASSISTANT: Open to all. Must be available in the afternoon and/or
evening on Sunday, February 19th.
WORKSHOP LEADER/FACILITATOR: Open to girls/women/females (trans inclusive). No music experience necessary. We offer a range of workshops from self-defense to songwriting to silkscreening to media literacy. We’re also open to new ideas about workshops that we haven’t offered before. Workshop leaders are responsible for developing a one-hour session on their topic and teaching it 1-3 times to a group of 10-40 campers. Workshops often involve team-teaching.
GIRLS ROCK CAMP JOB DESCRIPTIONS

COUNSELOR: Open to
girls/women/females only (trans inclusive). No musical experience
necessary. Counselors serve as mentors for assigned groups of girls,
which involves checking in with them every morning, making sure the
campers are where they need to be at all times, and offering advice and
help throughout the day. Since the most important parts of the job are
ensuring the campers' safety and giving them support and encouragement,
non-musicians are welcome in this job. Counselors who are musicians ,
however, are often called upon to assist campers on their instruments.
Must be available Monday-Friday of camp week, 8:30am - 5:45pm.

BAND COACH: Girls/women/femalesonly
(trans inclusive). Music experience important. On the first day of
camp, the campers form bands, each band is assigned a band coach.
Thecoach provides help and guidance with all aspects of working as a
group: setting up, tuning, songwriting, learning how to play together,
working together constructively, figuring out stage moves, etc. Must
beavailable either mornings or/and afternoons during camp week (approx.
2hours between 10:45am - 12:45pm or/and 3:15pm - 5:15pm, exact
scheduleTBD) and at the showcase concert.

CAMP ADMIN AND PROGRAMMING: Many roles open to all. Help plan and organize Girls Rock Camp! Committed and reliable volunteers are needed to help book bands, recruit and coordinate volunteers, devlop and staff workshops, coordinate campers, coordinate gear loans, and develop the organization and our programs in general. The deadline to submit your volunteer application for
WHEN: Girls Rock Camp ATL will take place Monday, July 11 through Friday, July 15, 2011, from 9:00am to 5:30pm, and on Saturday, July 16, times tobe announced. The final concert will be on Saturday, July 16, at a timeand location to be announced. Volunteers will be required to attend anorientation session and will be asked to help load-in and set-up on July 10, as well as load-out and clean-up on Friday, July 15 and Saturday, July 16. Please keep in mind that volunteer shifts may begin before the start of camp each day and may end after advertised camp hours.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE DO NOT call Atlanta Charter Middle School for information about camp or the volunteer application process and DO NOT SEND or DROP OFF any materials at ACMS. Materials sent to or dropped off at ACMS will not be considered.
ORIENTATION: General responsibilities for all volunteers include attending a mandatory orientation session. At the time you are notified that your volunteer application has been accepted you will also receive information regarding an orientation session.

VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTIONS: Please read through the descriptions to see which jobs interest you andsuit your schedule. You’ll let us know your preferences and availability on the application form. Feel free to sign up for one job or several. Counselors are required to be at camp every day starting at 8:30 a.m. and stick around for a brief (i.e. 15 minutes or so) staff wrap-up at the end of the camp day. Instructors, workshop leaders, and other volunteers are strongly encouraged to stay for the end of the day meeting. Coming to the final showcase concert isn't mandatory for everyone, but it sure is a fun experience, we really recommend includingit in your plans.
