Join Atlanta-bred roots rocker Michelle Malone, the legendary Beverly "Guitar" Watkins, and Angela "Bucky" Motter February 17-19, at Ladies Rock Camp, the annual fundraiser for Girls Rock Camp ATL, the Atlanta-based non-profit organization dedicated to empowering girls and women of all backgrounds and abilities through music education, creative expression, and performance.

The event is a three-day rock and roll fantasy experience where women learn to play an instrument, form a band, write a song together, and play a big rock concert finale. Beginners are absolutely encouraged to attend. Michelle Malone will be leading the songwriting workshop and will also be a floating band coach, giving participants tips, tricks, and pointers along the way. Beverly "Guitar" Watkins will play a private lunchtime set, and Angela "Bucky" Motter will be providing guitar instruction making for a once-in-a-lifetime musical experience.

Since the weekend is full of learning and making music, participants won't have to cook or pack their own meals! Lunches and dinners will be provided by the Peasant Bistro, Willy's Mexicana Grill, Mellow Mushroom, and Doc Chey's (Grant Park), and continental breakfast will be served in the mornings.

On top of all these great perks, participants experience the thrill of learning to play an instrument, forming a band, writing an original song, and playing a live rock concert for fellow campers, families, and friends. Those who have been to LRC before know how amazing and life-changing the experience is!

Tuition is on a $350 to $500 sliding scale and all proceeds support Girls Rock Camp ATL scholarships and strengthen the sustainability of the organization's programs. If you don't have an instrument one will be loaned to you at no additional charge.

Because Ladies Rock Camp is a fundraiser, tuition assistance is not offered.  However, we are mindful that there are starving artists out there. That is why we encourage any person who would like to attend to seek sponsorship (or contact the camp office to develop a payment plan that works for you). People are sponsored when they walk, run, bike, swim, and dance for causes, why not ROCK for one?! Please get in touch with the camp office if you would like to receive sponsorship and fundraising ideas.

Don't forget, Ladies Rock Camp makes the perfect gift so if you have a friend, relative, or know a lady that could use a rockin' weekend, please consider giving the gift of rock and roll empowerment!  Spaces are limited and fill up fast so don't delay!  Ladies Rock Camp takes place Friday, February 17, through Sunday, February 19, 2012.

ROCK BLOCK - SPRING 2012
Tuesdays, March 6 through April 10
4:00 - 6:30pm at Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School (Middle Campus)
Final rehearsal and performance on Saturday, April 14 (time and location TBD)

WHAT IS ROCK BLOCK?
Rock Block is much like Girls Rock Camp only it takes place over a period of six weeks and focuses mainly on creative music collaboration. Participants will receive instrument instruction, form a band, collaborate to write an original song, and perform in a rock show on the final day of the program. Currently Rock Block offers structured small group instruction in either electric bass, guitar, or drums. Participants will also experience songwriting and vocal workshops geared towards providing them with the building blocks to write and perform an original song with the other members of their band. Band coaches will be on site to guide bands through their processes. There will be a final performance on Saturday, April 14, time and place TBD.

This particular Rock Block is open only to middle school and high school students of any skill level. If you don't have an instrument one will be loaned to you at no additional cost. (Please note that drum sets may not leave the Rock Block site.)
